It’s really important to know WHY you are practicing. Having a clear, simple vision will keep you inspired and call to you as you walk step-by-step along the path.
2. Your goals: have a bigger picture
What are your musical goals? You don’t need to know how to get there at this stage (one step at a time!), you just need to know what inspires you and feels right.
The more specific your goals are the more easily you can assess your progress along the way. For example: periodically recording yourself (and reviewing the recordings) will help you to see whether you are on-track.
Here are some examples to get you thinking:
Performing in a band or ensemble?
Singing with a choir?
Performing in a musical theatre production?
Competing in a music competition?
Recording your music?
Being able to read music?
Singing with more confidence (and doing the occasional karaoke)?
Writing songs or composing your own music?
Improving your technique so you can rely on your voice when you perform?
Getting a qualification in music?
Learning a new skill for fun
…the options are endless!
